What is Options Trading??!!

Options trading become very popular lately because option is one of the most flexible and versatile instruments that can greatly enhance the performance or reduce the risk of an investment portfolio. By deploying the right strategies, options trading enable us to make money whether the market is bullish or bearish or even when the market going sideway.

So, what is an Option?

Option is a contract that has the right but not obligation to buy or sell a stock at a specific price on or before a specific date.

How does an option work?

An option is very similar to when we want to buy a land to build our home sweet home. For example, when we found an ideal piece of land and need time to obtain permit, land approval, securing financing and seek confirmation from Feng Shui master, etc.

At the same time, we would like to secure the land while putting everything in place. We can go to the land owner and “strike” a deal to buy the land for $5 million. We create a contract that gives us the right to buy the land but it does NOT constitute an obligation that we must purchase the land.

The contract has an expiration of 3 months to put everything in place. Hence, we are controlling the land for 3 months and we must decide whether to buy the land or not before the expiration date.

As a return, the land owner is expecting to collect a premium of $200,000 for being obligated to sell the land to us at $5 million. This premium is based on how much the land might increase in value during the 3 months period.
The land owner will be more than happy to receive and keep the $200,000 premium paid for the contract no matter what happens. At the same time, the agreed upon sales or strike price is likely to be much higher than he or she could obtain if he or she sold the land without obtaining all the necessary approvals.

The contract in this example is very similar to a Call option in stock market. The strike price is $5 million while the option premium is $200,000 for a 3 months expiration contract.

During the 3 months period, if we discover a gold mine underneath the land. The value of the land shoots up to $50 million. However, the land owner is still obliged to sell the land for $5 million. We bought the land for $5.2 million and can now sell it immediately for $50 million to make a $44.8 million profit.
However, if for some reasons such as the application to build a house is unsuccessful or the Feng Shui master confirms that the land is not suitable to build a house. We decide not to exercise the option to buy the land. In this case, we will lose $200,000 premium paid for the option.

Using the similar example and apply it to the share market or options trading, investors who anticipate a bullish market can buy Calls option on the stock to ride on the upward moving wave. When the stock prices go up, the premium of Calls will go up. That’s how an option trader can make money from option but at a fraction of the cost of owning the actual stock.

On the other hand, investors who anticipate a bearish market can buy Puts on stock to profit from falling prices. As the stock prices go down, the premium of Puts will rise to profit the investors. Puts are also used to protect portfolios like insurance to hedge against a fall in stock prices.

3 Days Millionaire Mind Intensive by T Harv Eker

I am back from the 3 days Millionaire Intensive in Singapore by T Harv Eker.

Personally, I feel that it was a great 3 days seminar to find out my money blueprint and why I react in certain ways when come to money. There is a rootcause behind this and it is something to do with our past experience especially from our childhood experience. Other than finding out how our blueprint is formed, the seminar also share some ways to change your blueprint in order to be rich and happy or rich and healthy....etc.

I found my blueprint and am committed to act and change it.

Also, Harv shares his money management system to the audience on how to manage your financial in order to attain financial freedom. It is very logical and make lots a sense to me. I am going to start practising it...

T Harv Eker will be in Singapore this week. I will be away and attending his famous Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar at Expo, Singapore from Nov 23-25, 2007.

In the book, Harv reveals 17 specific ways that RICH people think and act differently from POOR and MIDDLE-CLASS people. The book is a brilliant yet quick read.

Harv will share with you how he can predict your financial future by identifying what he calls your "inner blueprint" for money and success. Right now you're probably trying to figure out whether your own blueprint is set for wealth, moderate success or poverty. The answer is simple! Look at your results in the real world: your income, assets and net worth. Your results reflect your inner blueprint.

You can't build a mansion from a bungalow blueprint. In fact, the only way to become the architect of your new financial destiny is by revising your own internal blueprint and setting it for automatic success.

Our minds work very similar to computer hardware. Before a computer is able to perform a series of arithmetic or logical operations, it must first be programmed and installed with software files. The ability and usefulness of the highly sophisticated hardware can be severely compromised by the quality of software.

Similarly, whether we have an average or millionaire minds are highly dependent on the files that are installed in our minds. I used to think that, base on individual’s capacity, there is always a limited amount of money we can earn. The more money that we are after, the more time we need to trade off with money. The more time we are trading off with money, the lesser time we will have for ourselves. The lesser time left for ourselves, the lesser time we can spend with our love one which will lead to unhappiness either with ourselves or the love one. So, to stay happy, I am not willing to trade most of my time with a lot of money

I was very wrong in the past! I have an extremely wrong blueprint!

This book is very helpful to recondition my thinking tremendously. It has changed the ways I see things very differently in life especially removing all the excuses that I used to create for myself. It helps me to refocus on executing my plan to achieve my financial freedom goal.

Inspiration Corner: Michelangelo and the Flawed Stone!

Human being admires perfection.
Often quick to reject thing which has flaw, we don’t realize that, in working around the flaws, some of the world’s most perfect masterpieces were created.
A massive, solid piece of Carrara marble lying unused in a field for 40 years.
The marble had been abandoned and forgotten.
A large gash scarred its side.
Today, that same piece of marble is visited by millions of people all over the world.
The abandoned and scarred stone was transformed into one of the world’s greatest masterpieces.
In 1501, Michelangelo Buonarroti won a commission from the Florentine elders to work on the flawed block of marble.
Other sculptors assumed the block would break under the strain of the huge gouge in its side.
Yet Michelangelo was able to see behind the ruined surface something that no one else could see.
With chisel and mallet, he worked around the flaw.
Weeks, months and years passed, as the master hammered and sculpted the scarred stone.
Finally, there emerged from under his skillful hands the figure of a man which was said to be so perfect that it lacked only life itself.
After 4 years of painstaking carving, Michelangelo was able to release the beautiful image of “David” from flawed marble.
In doing so, the transformed the block rejected by others into the most striking sculpture in Florence.
David’s eyes are watchful…the veins in his hands and arms reveal his strength…a stone rests in his right hand, his body, seems a reservoir of energy, standing poised for action.
When asked how he accomplished such an incredible transformation, Michelangelo said that David was already in the piece of marble…he merely removed everything that wasn’t David, including the flaw.
In the same way that Michelangelo saw David in a block of stone, then, chiseled away the flaw and the excess until David appeared, envision yourself, your life as you wish it to that image.
In doing so, you will discover that inside every person, even the scarred ones, there is a masterpiece waiting to be brought to life.

Options Trading Championship 2007

Wow....time flies! Without realizing I was back from my vacation for almost 1 month and the Options Trading Championship 2007 at Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia was over for almost 2 weeks.

4 of us, Mong Ling, Hai Liang, C Hun and myself formed a team called Fun Gappers participated in this year Options Trading Championship 2007 which was organized by Freely School.

Last but not least, even though we did not win any prize, we have learned a lot and accumulated a very good experience which is a good foundation to strategize a winning recipe for next year! Fun Gappers will take up the challenge and come back again next year to win the championship and receive the prize from our mentor Dr Clemen Chiang.
